Amsterdam, specifically
- The canal ring, Jordaan, De Pijp: Strong 5G throughout. The tall narrow canal houses cause less trouble than you would expect - the streets are wide enough.
- Cycling: Which is how you will get around. Coverage is consistent across the city, and the practical point is not to navigate while riding - Amsterdam's cycling infrastructure is fast and unforgiving, and locals do not tolerate hesitation. Check the route, then go.
- The metro and Centraal: Covered, including the deep North-South line under the IJ. Centraal is busy but fine.
- Schiphol and the train in: The airport is 15 minutes from Centraal by train and covered the whole way.
- Out to Zaanse Schans and the bulb fields: Well covered - the countryside here is as connected as the city, which is not true of most of Europe. The Wadden islands ferries lose signal briefly mid-crossing.
The Netherlands, and the EU
The plan covers the whole country, and EU roaming carries it into Belgium or Germany at domestic rates - Antwerp and Cologne are both a couple of hours away.

Arriving in Amsterdam
Airport Wi-Fi at Schiphol
Schiphol's free network is time-restricted per session, so it is fine for checking a train time and less good for a long layover. The train into the city runs from beneath the terminal.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Amsterdam?
KPN, Vodafone and Odido have shops on Kalverstraat and in the malls, and the supermarkets and Kruidvat sell prepaid. The Netherlands does not require SIM registration, so it is genuinely a two-minute purchase - among the easiest in Europe.
Is coverage as good outside the cities?
Unusually, yes. The Netherlands is flat, compact and densely populated, so rural coverage is close to urban coverage - a contrast with somewhere like Ireland or Italy where the national average hides big gaps. The Wadden island ferries are about the only place you will notice a drop.
Does one plan cover a day trip to Belgium or Germany?
Yes. Both are EU members, so roam-like-at-home applies and the same plan works at domestic rates. Antwerp is under two hours by train and Cologne about three, so this comes up often.
eSIM not working in Amsterdam?
This is one of the least likely places for a genuine coverage gap. Check the Ohayu eSIM is set as your mobile data line and that roaming is enabled for it, then toggle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
