Coverage and network
Honest about coverage
Argentina mobile networks
Argentina averages 68 Mbps and ranks 69th globally, and Buenos Aires sits above that. The city is well covered end to end; the Subte's older lines are the only routine gap.

Real Buenos Aires conditions
- Palermo, Recoleta & Puerto Madero: Strong 5G across the northern barrios and the business districts. This is where that 203 Mbps city average actually shows up.
- Subte & colectivos: The Subte has coverage in stations and on most elevated sections, with drops in the older tunnels between stops. Buses hold signal fine across the city.
- San Telmo & La Boca: Coverage is good outdoors, but the thick old masonry in San Telmo and La Boca can weaken indoor signal. Stepping toward a window usually fixes it.
One eSIM, the whole country
Buenos Aires is just the start - this eSIM covers all of Argentina. Keep the same plan for Mendoza, Bariloche, or Iguazú.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Buenos Aires?
Ezeiza and Aeroparque both have carrier desks, and there are official Claro, Personal and Movistar stores all over the city. Skip the kiosks that sell unregistered SIMs unless you are happy doing the Spanish-language self-registration from your phone. A travel eSIM like Ohayu avoids the whole errand - install before you fly and after landing it can connect you to supported networks like Claro, Personal or Movistar.
Do I need ID to buy a SIM card in Argentina?
Yes. Argentina requires every mobile line to be registered to a named holder under Ley 25.891 and ENACOM's current rules, and as a visitor you register with your passport since you will not have an Argentine DNI.
The catch is where you buy: kiosk SIMs come unregistered and leave you finishing the process in Spanish from a handset menu. An official Claro, Personal or Movistar store with your passport is the reliable route. An Ohayu plan is data-only with no Argentine number, so there is nothing to register.
Is data as fast outside Buenos Aires?
No, and it is a bigger gap than most countries. Buenos Aires runs around 203 Mbps while the national average is closer to 68 Mbps. Córdoba, Rosario and Mendoza are solid, but rural Patagonia and the far north are much slower with real dead zones between towns.
Why isn't my eSIM working in Buenos Aires?
On the Subte's older lines a brief drop between stations is normal. If that is not the cause, set Ohayu as the line used for mobile data, turn roaming on for it, and toggle Airplane mode. Still nothing? chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
