Qatar mobile networks
Qatar ranks 2nd in the world at about 561 Mbps, and Doha itself measures around 553 - third among cities globally. This is as fast as mobile data gets anywhere. Qatar is also small enough that near-total coverage is achievable, and it broadly is.

Doha, specifically
- West Bay, the Corniche, Msheireb: Exceptionally fast 5G. Speeds here beat most people's home broadband.
- Souq Waqif: Covered. The restored souq's covered alleys dip slightly, which is barely noticeable at these speeds.
- The Metro: Fully covered in the tunnels. Doha's metro is new and connectivity was designed in rather than retrofitted.
- The Inland Sea and the dunes: Khor Al Adaid is about an hour south and coverage thins in the dunes, though not as much as the emptiness suggests - Qatar is compact. Dune-bashing trips can drop out in the deeper bowls.
- Stadiums and event days: Qatar built enormous network capacity for the 2022 World Cup and it did not go away. Large events here handle load better than almost anywhere.

The plan covers the whole country. Qatar is a peninsula bordered only by Saudi Arabia, which is a separate plan.

Arriving in Doha
Airport Wi-Fi at Hamad
Hamad International runs a free complimentary network across the terminal, upgraded to Wi-Fi 6. It is one of the world's major transit hubs, so this is a network a lot of people use on a long layover.

Frequently asked questions
Is Qatar really the fastest mobile network in the world?
Second, on the current figures - about 561 Mbps nationally, with Doha at roughly 553 and third among cities. It is genuinely faster than most fixed broadband. The 2022 World Cup build-out is a large part of why, and the capacity stayed after the tournament.
Where to buy a SIM card in Doha?
Ooredoo and Vodafone have counters in the airport arrivals hall and shops in the malls. Qatar requires identification to register a line, so bring your passport. Tourist bundles are widely sold and reasonably priced.
Is it worth having a plan for a long layover?
Hamad's free Wi-Fi is good and covers the terminal, so for a short connection it is enough. If you are doing a stopover into the city - which Qatar actively encourages - having your own data for the metro, taxis and the souq is more useful than hunting for hotspots.
eSIM not working in Doha?
Out in the dunes at Khor Al Adaid a gap is possible, though rarer than the emptiness suggests. In the city, this is one of the least likely places for a coverage fault - check the phone is using the Ohayu line for data with roaming on, then toggle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
