Coverage and network
Coverage and the Green Line
Cyprus mobile networks
Cyprus averages 112 Mbps and ranks 45th globally, which is solid, and the island is small enough that coverage is consistent across the south. The complication is political geography rather than terrain. (Speedtest by Ookla, June 2026)

Larnaca and the south
- Larnaca, Finikoudes, the salt lake: Strong throughout the town and along the seafront promenade.
- Ayia Napa, Limassol, Paphos: All well covered, and the motorway between them holds signal end to end. The island is compact enough to drive across in about two hours.
- Troodos mountains: Coverage in the villages and on the main roads. It thins on the forest tracks and around the higher peaks.
- Crossing into the north: The important one. Northern Cyprus runs on Turkish-linked networks - KKTCELL and Telsim - and is outside the EU roaming area. A Republic of Cyprus plan does not work there normally; if it connects at all it will be as non-EU roaming. Do not assume your plan crosses the Green Line with you.
The south, and the EU
The plan covers the Republic of Cyprus, and since Cyprus is an EU member the same roam-like-at-home rules apply if you travel on to Greece or elsewhere in the EU.
How to install eSIM
Connected in 3 steps
- 01
Buy before you fly
Choose your data plan before your trip.
- 02
Download & install
Log in to your account, tap your eSIM, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- 03
Land & activate
Activate when you arrive in Cyprus. Turn on roaming for the eSIM and it connects to a local network.
Before you buy, make sure your phone supports eSIM — see Ohayu compatible devices list or dial *#06#. It's a free request to your phone's settings. If you see the EID number — your phone is eSIM-compatible.
Arriving in Larnaca
Airport Wi-Fi at LCA
Larnaca has free airport Wi-Fi, but the operator does not publish the network name - you pick it from your device list at the gate. Installing beforehand saves the guesswork.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Larnaca?
Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel have stores in town and staffed counters at the airport. Use a staffed outlet rather than an unattended kiosk - see the registration point below.
Do I need ID to buy a prepaid SIM in Cyprus?
Yes, and this changed recently enough that a lot of older travel advice is now wrong. Under Law 63(I)/2024, all prepaid SIMs and eSIMs must be registered to an identified holder. Existing unregistered numbers were disconnected from 11 November 2025, so anonymous prepaid in Cyprus is finished.
A passport or EU national ID is accepted. Buy from an operator store or a staffed airport counter, because an unattended kiosk may leave you holding a SIM you cannot activate. Ohayu plans are data-only with no Cypriot number, so the registration requirement does not apply.
Will my Cyprus plan work in Northern Cyprus?
Generally no, and this is the single biggest thing to know about connectivity on this island. The north uses Turkish-linked operators (KKTCELL, Telsim) and sits outside the EU roaming area, so a Republic of Cyprus plan either will not connect or will be treated as non-EU roaming with separate charges. Crossing the Green Line for a day trip to Famagusta or Kyrenia is common, so plan for it: expect to be offline in the north unless you arrange separate coverage.
eSIM not working in Cyprus?
If you have crossed into the north, that is the cause - see the FAQ above. In the south, check the Ohayu eSIM is your data line and roaming is on, then cycle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
