Coverage and network

Coverage above and below the city

Czech Republic mobile networks

All three Czech operators cover Prague thoroughly with 5G in the centre and across the inner districts, and the country is compact enough that intercity coverage holds up well. The one thing worth knowing is how deep the metro runs.

O2T-MobileVodafone

Prague, specifically

  • Old Town, Malá Strana, Vinohrady: Strong throughout, including on Charles Bridge and in the courtyards off the main squares.
  • The metro: Prague has some of the deepest stations in Europe - Náměstí Míru's escalator runs 87 metres. Stations are covered; the deepest tunnel sections between them can still drop briefly.
  • Crowd pinch points: Charles Bridge and the Astronomical Clock at the top of the hour concentrate very large numbers into small spaces, and uploads slow accordingly. It clears a street away.
  • Day trips: Kutná Hora, Karlovy Vary and Český Krumlov are covered in the towns and along the rail and motorway routes, thinner on the smaller Bohemian back roads.

Czechia, and the EU

The plan covers the whole Czech Republic, and as an EU member the same terms carry into Germany, Austria or Poland if you continue.

Frequently asked questions

Coverage

Where to buy a SIM card in Prague?

O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone have shops across the centre, and supermarkets and Alza sell prepaid too. It is one of the easier countries in Europe for this - see below.

Do I need ID to buy a prepaid SIM in the Czech Republic?

No. Czechia has no prepaid registration law - it considered introducing one and decided against it. You can buy over the counter with no documents at all.

The friction here is topping up rather than buying: some operator self-service portals expect a Czech address or a Czech payment card, so if a foreign card is declined, use a cash voucher or top up in store. An Ohayu plan avoids that by being paid for before you travel.

Does one plan cover Vienna or Berlin too?

Yes - Czechia, Austria and Germany are all in the EU, and roam-like-at-home means the same plan runs at domestic rates across the bloc and the EEA. Prague to Vienna is four hours on the train and Berlin four and a half, so this comes up a lot. Prepaid bundles carry fair-use terms aimed at people who live abroad on a domestic plan, not at anyone on a two-week trip.

Troubleshooting

eSIM not working in Prague?

In the deepest metro tunnels a brief drop is normal. Above ground, the usual cause is the phone using the wrong line - set Ohayu as your mobile data SIM, allow roaming for it, then toggle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
