Stockholm, specifically
- Gamla Stan, Södermalm, Östermalm: Exceptionally fast 5G. Speeds here beat most home broadband.
- The Tunnelbana: Covered throughout, including the deep blue-line stations cut into bedrock - the ones people visit for the artwork.
- The archipelago: Some 30,000 islands east of the city. The inner archipelago and the ferry routes are covered; the outer islands thin out and the smallest have nothing.
- Winter and daylight: In December there are about six hours of light and temperatures well below freezing. Cold drains a battery fast, which matters more than coverage does.
- Out to Uppsala and Sigtuna: Well covered along the rail lines. Swedish rural coverage is better than the terrain suggests.
Sweden, and the EU
The plan covers all of Sweden, and as an EU member the same terms carry into Denmark, Finland or Norway - Norway via the EEA.

Arriving in Stockholm
Arlanda and the Arlanda Express
Arlanda has free terminal Wi-Fi. The Arlanda Express reaches the centre in 18 minutes but is expensive even by Swedish standards, and the bus and commuter train are much cheaper - a comparison worth doing online before you buy.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Stockholm?
Telia, Tele2 and Telenor have shops in the centre and Pressbyrån kiosks sell prepaid. Sweden does not require SIM registration, so it is quick - but Swedish prepaid is expensive, and the country is close to cashless, so bring a card.
Is Stockholm really that fast?
Yes. Around 393 Mbps puts it fifth among cities measured worldwide, against a Swedish national figure of 146. Sweden built out early and the capital shows it. If you are working remotely, mobile data here is a genuine alternative to fixed broadband.
Is there coverage in the archipelago?
In the inner archipelago and along the main ferry routes, yes. Out towards the outer islands it thins, and the smallest skerries have nothing. Ferries run to seasonal timetables that change - check before you plan a return.
eSIM not working in Stockholm?
In winter, check the phone has not gone flat in the cold - a likelier cause here than coverage. Far out in the archipelago there are genuine gaps. Otherwise make Ohayu the data line, allow roaming, toggle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
