Coverage and network
Honest about coverage
Armenia mobile networks

Real Yerevan conditions
- Republic Square & the Cascade: Strong, consistent coverage across the city centre, Northern Avenue, and the Cascade area. Good enough for video calls from a café terrace.
- Yerevan Metro: The metro is small - one line, ten stations - and has coverage in the stations, with the usual brief drops in the tunnels between them.
- Day trips & the mountains: Garni and Geghard are fine. Head further out to Lake Sevan, Tatev, or into Syunik and coverage gets patchy on the mountain roads, with real gaps between villages.
One eSIM, the whole country
Yerevan is just the start - this eSIM covers all of Armenia. Keep the same plan for Dilijan, Lake Sevan, or Gyumri.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Yerevan?
Zvartnots arrivals has operator desks, and there are Viva-MTS, Team and Ucom shops throughout the centre. Buying a local SIM means a passport scan and signing a contract at the counter. A travel eSIM like Ohayu skips that - install before you fly and after landing it can connect you to supported networks like Viva-MTS, Team or Ucom.
Do I need to show ID to buy a SIM card in Yerevan?
In practice, yes. Armenian operators scan your passport and have you sign a contract when you buy a local SIM, so bring it with you. Travel eSIMs like Ohayu are data-only with no Armenian number assigned, so there is no counter, no contract and no passport step.
Is Armenia introducing phone registration rules I should know about?
Possibly, so it is worth watching. In June 2026 the Armenian government approved a bill to create a national IMEI registry, which would require handsets to be registered or lose service, with a target start of 1 January 2027. It is not law yet - it still needs to pass the National Assembly, and the final details for visitors are not settled. If you are travelling around or after that date, check the current rules before relying on a local SIM.
Why isn't my eSIM working in Yerevan?
On the mountain roads towards Sevan or Tatev, gaps are genuine. Where that is not the issue, one pass through the settings usually does it: Ohayu selected for data, roaming permitted, Airplane mode off and on. If not, chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
