Coverage and network

Coverage along the Black Sea

Georgia mobile networks

Georgia's national numbers are strong and Batumi shares in them - the seafront strip and the boulevard are well served by all three operators. Adjara rises steeply behind the city, and that is where it changes.

#17 of 98

Batumi and Adjara, specifically

  • The boulevard and the seafront towers: Strong throughout, including out on the pier and by the Ali and Nino sculpture.
  • Old Batumi and the port: Covered. The cruise terminal is fine.
  • Summer peak: Batumi is a Black Sea resort city and August multiplies its population. The beach strip slows in the evenings - noticeable on uploads rather than maps.
  • Mtirala and Machakhela national parks: Half an hour inland and coverage becomes patchy between villages. The waterfall trails have gaps.
  • The Turkish border at Sarpi: Covered right up to the crossing, but a Georgian plan stops there - Turkey is a separate destination.

All of Georgia

The plan covers the whole country, so the same eSIM works for Batumi, Tbilisi and anywhere between. It does not extend across the border into Turkey.

Frequently asked questions

Coverage

Where to buy a SIM card in Batumi?

Operator shops along Chavchavadze and in the malls. The airport has limited options and the land border at Sarpi has none, so if you are crossing from Turkey you will be looking for a shop in town.

What do I need to buy a Georgian SIM?

Your passport. Georgia registers mobile lines taken by non-citizens, so the shop scans it before the SIM will work - a couple of minutes at the counter. In Batumi the constraint is finding a shop rather than the paperwork, especially if you have come overland. Ohayu plans issue no Georgian number, so nothing is registered.

Does the plan work if I cross into Turkey?

No. Sarpi is 20 minutes from central Batumi and a lot of visitors do the crossing, but a Georgian plan ends at the border - Turkey needs its own. Coverage holds right up to the checkpoint on the Georgian side.

Troubleshooting

eSIM not working in Batumi?

Inland in Adjara the gaps between villages are real. If you have crossed to Sarpi and beyond, you are out of the plan's coverage. In town, confirm Ohayu is the mobile data line with roaming on, then flip Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
