Cebu, specifically
- Cebu City and Mandaue: Solid 4G with 5G in the business districts. The IT Park area is among the better-served spots in the country.
- Mactan and the resort strip: Covered - the airport is on Mactan and so are most of the beach hotels.
- The mountain spine: The road over to Badian and Moalboal on the west coast crosses the ridge and loses signal on the way. It is a slow, winding drive.
- Kawasan Falls and the canyoneering: The falls area has patchy coverage and the canyoneering route down the gorge has none - it is several hours of jumping and swimming through a slot canyon. Leave your phone secured or behind.
- Boat trips and diving: Coverage holds near shore. The crossings to Bohol, Malapascua and the Camotes lose it, and the Oslob whale shark boats go quiet.

Where to buy a SIM card in Cebu?
Globe and Smart counters at the airport and outlets in Ayala and SM malls. Registration under the 2022 act applies, and a tourist SIM lasts thirty days before deactivating - worth knowing if your trip runs longer.
Is there signal for the Oslob and Kawasan trips?
Not much. The Oslob whale shark boats go offshore and lose it, and the Kawasan canyoneering route is hours inside a gorge with nothing at all - you should not have a phone loose on that trip anyway. Both are all-day excursions from the city, so tell whoever is waiting for you when to expect you back.
Do the ferries to Bohol keep coverage?
Near both ports, and not in the middle. The fast craft take about two hours across open water. The same goes for Malapascua and the Camotes - download anything you want for the journey.
