Jeddah, specifically

  • Al-Balad and the corniche: Strong 5G. The old town's coral-stone houses are being restored and the lanes are narrow, with the usual brief dropouts inside them.
  • The airport: One of the busiest in the region, with a dedicated Hajj terminal handling millions of pilgrims a season. Coverage is dense; the queues are the delay.
  • Red Sea diving: The reefs are close to shore and day boats often hold a weak signal. Trips further out and liveaboards go out of range.
  • Summer heat and humidity: Jeddah in summer is brutally hot and humid, and phones throttle and drain in it. This affects your device long before it affects the network.
  • North to the Red Sea developments and AlUla: Covered along the main routes. AlUla itself is served in the town and the visitor areas, with gaps out in the desert canyons.

All of Saudi Arabia

The plan covers the whole Kingdom, so Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah and Riyadh all run on the same eSIM.

Frequently asked questions

Coverage

What does a Saudi SIM require?

A passport copy and a fingerprint scan - Saudi operators biometrically register local lines, so it is an in-person enrolment at a shop or kiosk. Doable, but it is a queue at an airport that already has long ones. A roaming plan carries no Saudi number and skips the enrolment.

Where to buy a SIM card in Jeddah?

STC, Mobily and Zain have kiosks in the airport arrivals area and shops in the malls. Prices are reasonable; the biometric step is the time cost rather than the money.

Is Saudi mobile data as fast as claimed?

Faster than most people expect. The country ranks 8th globally at about 228 Mbps, and Jeddah measures around 259 - ahead of most European cities. The 5G build-out here has been aggressive and it shows.

Troubleshooting

eSIM not working in Jeddah?

In summer, check the phone has not throttled itself in the heat - that is a common cause here. Otherwise set Ohayu as the mobile data line, allow roaming, then cycle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
