Karachi, specifically
- Clifton, DHA, Saddar: Reasonable 4G. These are the best-served parts of a very large and unevenly developed city.
- Network shutdowns: Worth knowing about. Pakistani authorities have suspended mobile data and services during protests, religious processions and security operations, sometimes across whole cities and with little notice. It is not a coverage problem and no provider can work around it - keep offline maps and do not depend on being reachable on a sensitive date.
- Traffic and the distances: Karachi is enormous and moving across it takes hours. Coverage along the main arteries holds up, and ride-hailing is the normal way to get around.
- The port and Sea View: Covered. The beachfront is busy in the evenings and slows on uploads.
- Out towards Thatta and the interior: Coverage follows the highways and thins between towns. Interior Sindh is patchy and the roads are slow.

What does a Pakistani SIM require?
Biometric verification. Pakistan requires fingerprint enrolment against a passport for a foreign visitor to get a local line, done in person at an operator franchise - it is one of the stricter regimes anywhere, and the process can take a while or be refused outright depending on your visa type. An Ohayu plan issues no Pakistani number and needs none of it.
Do mobile shutdowns affect a travel eSIM?
Yes - and this is worth being straight about. When authorities suspend mobile data in an area, it applies to the networks themselves, so every SIM and eSIM on them stops working equally. No provider can route around a shutdown. These have happened during protests, major processions and security operations. Download maps in advance and have a fallback way to reach whoever is expecting you.
