Coverage and network
Honest about coverage
Brazil mobile networks
Brazil ranks fifth globally at 266 Mbps, but that average is built in the southeast. Roraima is the far end of the distribution - Boa Vista itself is covered, and the savanna around it thins out fast.

Real Boa Vista conditions
- The city itself: Boa Vista has solid 4G and 5G across the centre, the Orla Taumanan riverfront and the residential districts. Fine for maps, calls and uploads.
- The BR-174 and the borders: Coverage follows the highway in patches. The long runs south to Manaus or north to the Venezuelan and Guyanese borders have substantial gaps - plan for hours without signal.
- Mount Roraima & indigenous lands: Be realistic here: the trek to Mount Roraima and the surrounding protected and indigenous territories have effectively no mobile coverage from any carrier. Download everything and take a satellite communicator if you are going remote.
One eSIM, the whole country
Boa Vista is just the start - this eSIM covers all of Brazil. Keep the same plan for Manaus, São Paulo, or Rio.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Boa Vista?
There are Vivo, Claro and TIM stores in the city, though selection is smaller than in Brazil's big centres and as a foreigner you must activate in person at an operator's own store. A travel eSIM like Ohayu is worth more here than most places, since you arrive already connected: install before you fly and after landing it can connect you to supported networks like Vivo, Claro or TIM.
Can I get a local SIM in Boa Vista?
You can, with a passport - that is what the registration rules ask of a foreigner, whatever a shop tells you about needing a CPF. Up here the practical constraint is choice: there are few operator stores and resellers cannot complete a foreigner's activation at all. Arriving with data already working is the simpler route.
Will it work on the road to Manaus or out to Mount Roraima?
Only in patches. Boa Vista and the towns along the BR-174 have coverage, but the stretches between them run for hours with no signal, and the Mount Roraima trek and surrounding protected areas have essentially none from any carrier. This is a genuine wilderness region - download offline maps, and take a satellite device if you are going properly remote.
Why isn't my eSIM working in Boa Vista?
Outside the city towards the Venezuelan border and the savanna, there are long gaps. Where that is not the issue, one pass through the settings usually does it: Ohayu selected for data, roaming permitted, Airplane mode off and on. If not, chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
