- City centre, Northern Quarter, Ancoats: Strong coverage. The converted mill buildings have thick brick walls that weaken indoor signal in places.
- The Metrolink: The tram network is almost entirely above ground and covered throughout, including the airport line.
- Match days: Old Trafford and the Etihad each move tens of thousands of people through a small area. Networks slow either side of kick-off, and meeting someone by phone outside a stadium is difficult.
- Out to the Peak District: Forty minutes east. The towns - Buxton, Castleton - are covered, and the moors and the Edale valley have real gaps. Kinder Scout is largely without service.
- The airport: Three terminals with free Wi-Fi and a rail station, and one of the busiest airports outside London. The rail link is the sensible route in.
