City break – 3 GB
Maps and bookings around Edinburgh.
A week touring – 10 GB
Navigation, with offline maps for the glens.
Scotland and England – 20 GB
Edinburgh down to London on one plan.
Working from a city – Unlimited

Coverage and network
Coverage north of the central belt
United Kingdom mobile networks
The UK averages around 76 Mbps, which puts it behind most of western Europe, and Scotland pulls that number down rather than up. Edinburgh and Glasgow are fine. The Highlands are the least connected part of Britain, and no eSIM or local SIM changes that. (Speedtest by Ookla, June 2026)

Cities versus Highlands
- Edinburgh and Glasgow: Consistent 4G and 5G across both, including the Old Town closes and the Glasgow subway stations.
- The A9 and the main routes: Perth, Inverness and Fort William hold signal, and the trunk roads between them mostly do. Mostly.
- Single-track roads and glens: Glen Coe, Torridon, Applecross and much of the NC500 have long notspots. If you are driving these, download the route - "I will look it up when I get there" does not work here.
- Skye, the isles and CalMac ferries: Portree and the larger island villages are covered. Crossings lose signal in open water, and the Outer Hebrides thin out fast away from the main roads.
Scotland, England and Wales
Scotland shares one plan with England and Wales, so an Edinburgh-to-London leg needs no second purchase.
How to install eSIM
Connected in 3 steps
- 01
Buy before you fly
Choose your data plan before your trip.
- 02
Download & install
Log in to your account, tap your eSIM, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- 03
Land & activate
Activate when you arrive in United Kingdom. Turn on roaming for the eSIM and it connects to a local network.
Before you buy, make sure your phone supports eSIM — see Ohayu compatible devices list or dial *#06#. It's a free request to your phone's settings. If you see the EID number — your phone is eSIM-compatible.
Arriving in Scotland
Airport Wi-Fi at EDI and GLA
Edinburgh gives two hours free, Glasgow one hour before it asks for payment. Enough to install either way.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Scotland?
EE and Vodafone have kiosks at both airports, and every high street has carrier shops. Airport pricing is worse than town. An eSIM saves the stop.
Do I need to show ID to buy a SIM card in the UK?
No - the UK has no ID requirement for prepaid SIMs, which makes it one of the easier places to buy one. Ohayu plans need no verification either.
Will it work on the NC500, in Glen Coe or on Skye?
Partly, and you should plan around the gaps. Towns and villages are covered; the single-track sections, Glen Coe, Applecross and stretches of the NC500 have long notspots on every UK network. Ferries lose signal mid-crossing. Download maps and accommodation details before you leave the central belt.
eSIM not working in the Highlands?
Most likely there is nothing to connect to - large parts of the Highlands and islands have no mast coverage from any operator. Back in a town, check the Ohayu eSIM is your data line, roaming is on, then cycle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com run 24/7.
