Vietnam mobile networks

Phu Quoc has been developed hard and fast, and the western resort strip and the main north-south road are well covered. Two thirds of the island is national park, and that part is not.

Global rank

#20 of 98

Phu Quoc, specifically

  • Long Beach and Duong Dong: Reliable 4G and 5G along the developed west coast and through the main town.
  • The national park: The northern and central forest is protected and largely without coverage. The tracks in are rough and unsigned.
  • An Thoi and the cable car: The world's longest over-water cable car runs to Hon Thom, and both stations are covered. The islands at the southern end have signal in the resorts.
  • Boat and snorkelling trips: Coverage drops as you head out to the An Thoi archipelago. Fishing and squid trips at night go out of range.
  • Construction: Large parts of the island are building sites, which changes roads and access from month to month. A live map is more useful here than a printed guide.

All of Vietnam

The plan covers the whole country, so Phu Quoc and the mainland run on the same eSIM if your trip takes in both.

Frequently asked questions

Coverage

Can I visit Phu Quoc without a Vietnam visa?

Yes, under a specific exemption - foreign nationals can stay on Phu Quoc for up to 30 days visa-free. The conditions are what catch people: you must arrive on the island directly, or transit straight through a Vietnamese border gate to it, and you must stay only on Phu Quoc. Travelling on to the mainland breaks the exemption and needs a proper visa. Check the current rules before you book, since Vietnam adjusts them.

Where to buy a SIM card on Phu Quoc?

Operator shops in Duong Dong and a counter at the airport. Vietnam registers lines against a passport, and the island's airport counters carry the same mark-up as the mainland ones. In-town shops are better value.

Is there coverage in the national park?

Mostly not. Around two thirds of the island is protected forest with few masts and rough, unsigned tracks. If you are heading north beyond the resorts, download the map - and be aware the island's road layout changes as construction proceeds.

Troubleshooting

eSIM not working on Phu Quoc?

In the northern forest or out on a night fishing trip, there is nothing in range. On the west coast, set Ohayu as your mobile data line, allow roaming, then cycle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
