Coverage and network
Honest about coverage
Canada mobile networks
Canada's 98 Mbps national average, 47th globally, says little about Alberta: Calgary and Edmonton are well covered, and the mountain parks that most visitors come for are a different proposition.

Real Alberta conditions
- Calgary & Edmonton: Strong 5G across both cities, including downtown Calgary, Whyte Avenue in Edmonton, and the C-Train and LRT networks.
- Banff, Canmore & Jasper townsites: The mountain towns themselves have good coverage - you can post from Banff Avenue or Lake Louise village without trouble.
- The Icefields Parkway: This is the one to plan for. The Highway 93 run between Lake Louise and Jasper is one of the great drives in the world and has long stretches with no signal at all. Download your maps, playlists and bookings before you set off.
One eSIM, the whole country
Alberta is just one province - this eSIM covers all of Canada. Keep the same plan for BC, Toronto, or Montreal.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Alberta?
There are Rogers, Bell and Telus stores plus prepaid brands in Calgary and Edmonton malls, and both airports have electronics kiosks. Selection in the mountain towns is limited. A travel eSIM like Ohayu means you arrive connected: install before you fly and after landing it can connect you to supported networks like Rogers, Bell or Telus.
Does Canada require SIM registration?
No, and it is unusual in that - most countries do. There is no ID requirement for prepaid here. The real obstacle for a visitor is that some carriers' prepaid activation wants a Canadian payment card, which a traveller will not have.
Will it work in Banff and Jasper?
In the townsites, yes - Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise village and Jasper all have solid coverage. The gap is the drive between them: the Icefields Parkway has long stretches with no signal from any carrier. Download offline maps and any bookings before you leave Lake Louise.
Why isn't my eSIM working in Alberta?
In the mountain parks - Icefields Parkway, the backcountry trails - long stretches have nothing. If that is not the cause, set Ohayu as the line used for mobile data, turn roaming on for it, and toggle Airplane mode. Still nothing? chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
