Honest about coverage
Canada mobile networks
Canada's national figure is 98 Mbps, 47th in the world, and Vancouver runs comfortably ahead of it. The city is well served; the mountains and the inlets immediately behind it are not.

Real Vancouver conditions
- Downtown, Gastown & Kitsilano: Strong 5G across the peninsula, the West End and the beaches. Stanley Park has coverage on the seawall and main roads, thinning on the interior trails.
- SkyTrain & SeaBus: Good coverage across the SkyTrain network and on the SeaBus over to North Vancouver, including most of the tunnelled downtown section.
- Sea-to-Sky & the North Shore mountains: The highway to Whistler is well covered, which is unusual for a mountain route. Grouse and Cypress have signal near the lifts but it drops off on the backcountry trails.
One eSIM, the whole country
Vancouver is just the start - this eSIM covers all of Canada. Keep the same plan for Whistler, Victoria, or a flight east to Toronto.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Vancouver?
There are Rogers, Bell and Telus stores plus prepaid brands in Pacific Centre and along Robson Street, and YVR has electronics kiosks. A travel eSIM like Ohayu avoids the errand: install before you fly and after landing it can connect you to supported networks like Rogers, Bell or Telus.
Is any ID needed for a Canadian SIM?
Not by law - Canada has no prepaid registration requirement. What stops visitors is billing: several carriers' activation pages expect a Canadian credit card or address before they will let a prepaid line through. Buying before you travel avoids that entirely.
Will it work on the drive to Whistler?
Yes, mostly. The Sea-to-Sky Highway is well covered for a mountain route, so you keep signal for most of the drive and throughout Whistler village. Backcountry trails and the deeper valleys off the highway are a different story - download maps if you are heading off-road.
Why isn't my eSIM working in Vancouver?
On the Sea-to-Sky beyond Squamish and in the North Shore canyons, gaps are real. If the cause is not local, make sure Ohayu is your data line and roaming is switched on, then cycle Airplane mode once. If it stays down, chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
