How much mobile data you need
What's the best eSIM for Corsica?
A beach week – 3 GB
Maps, restaurants, the odd photo upload.
Driving the island – 10 GB
Two weeks, coast road, offline maps.
Corsica and Sardinia – 20 GB
Ferry south on one plan.
A long summer stay – Unlimited
Tethering from a rental.
Coverage and network
Coverage coast versus interior
France mobile networks
Corsica is a French region, so the same three operators serve it and a France plan covers it with no separate arrangement. The island's shape is the thing to understand: a mountain range with a coastline around it, and the coverage follows the coast road and the towns rather than the middle.

Corsica, specifically
- Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Calvi: Proper coverage, 4G and 5G, no different from a mid-sized mainland town.
- The GR20: Assume long stretches with nothing. The high-level route runs the spine of the island for around 180 km, and the refuges are mostly in valleys and cols without service. This is the single most important thing to plan for here - offline maps, and tell someone your stage plan.
- The coast road: The D81 and the corniche routes hold signal most of the way, with gaps in the tunnels and where the road cuts behind headlands. Cap Corse in the north thins out on the western side.
- Ferries from Nice, Toulon and Livorno: You lose signal in the middle of the crossing. Coming from Livorno you may pick up Italian networks near the Tuscan coast, which is still covered under EU roaming.
- Bonifacio and the far south: Good in town and at the port. The Lavezzi islands boat trip goes out of range.
Corsica, France and the EU
A French plan includes Corsica - it is not treated as a separate destination. The same plan works on the mainland, and in Italy or Sardinia under EU roaming if you island-hop south.
How to install eSIM
Connected in 3 steps
- 01
Buy before you fly
Choose your data plan before your trip.
- 02
Download & install
Log in to your account, tap your eSIM, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- 03
Land & activate
Activate when you arrive in France. Turn on roaming for the eSIM and it connects to a local network.
Before you buy, make sure your phone supports eSIM — see Ohayu compatible devices list or dial *#06#. It's a free request to your phone's settings. If you see the EID number — your phone is eSIM-compatible.
Arriving in Corsica
Airport and port Wi-Fi
The island's four airports are small and their Wi-Fi is basic, with no network name any of them publishes reliably. The ferry terminals are worse. Arriving with data already working avoids the problem entirely.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate eSIM for Corsica?
No. Corsica is a region of France, not an overseas territory, so a France plan covers it on the same terms with nothing extra to buy. This is worth stating plainly because it is not true of every French island - French Polynesia and the Caribbean départements are billed separately.
Where to buy a SIM card in Corsica?
Orange and SFR have shops in Ajaccio and Bastia, and the larger supermarkets stock prepaid. Outside the main towns the options drop off quickly, and in Porto-Vecchio or Calvi you are relying on a single store keeping summer hours. You will need your passport - French lines must be registered to a named person.
Will I have signal on the GR20?
For long stretches, no. The route crosses the mountainous interior where there is no reason to build coverage, and several refuges have none at all. Download the whole route before you start, carry a paper map, and leave your stage plan with someone. If being contactable matters on the trail, the honest answer is a satellite messenger rather than any eSIM.
eSIM not working in Corsica?
In the interior or on the GR20 there is often genuinely nothing in range, and mid-ferry you will lose it too. In a town, confirm Ohayu is set as the data line with roaming on, then toggle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
