Real Paris conditions
- Metro & RER tunnels: Most Paris Métro lines have 4G coverage on platforms and in newer tunnel sections, but signal drops are common mid-tunnel on older lines. Expect gaps on Lines 3, 7, and 13 underground stretches.
- Dense crowds at landmarks: Network congestion around the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, and Champs-Élysées during peak hours can slow speeds noticeably. Speeds typically recover within a few minutes or when you move a short distance.
- Rural Île-de-France: Coverage is available throughout Greater Paris, but forested areas in Fontainebleau and rural Île-de-France may have limited signal.
One eSIM, all of France
This plan isn't limited to Paris - it covers the entire France nationwide network. Whether you're catching a TGV to Lyon, exploring the Normandy coast, or visiting the châteaux of the Loire Valley, the same eSIM works throughout the country.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Paris?
Don't expect a carrier store when you land at CDG - there are none in the arrivals halls. Orange has kiosks in T1 and T2E but they close at 21:00, and Relay newsagents in every terminal sell Orange and Bouygues tourist SIMs. Orly only has Relay shops. If you arrive late or want to avoid the limited choice and inflated prices, get a travel eSIM like Ohayu before your flight - after landing it can connect you to supported networks like Orange or SFR.
Do I need to show ID to buy a SIM card in Paris?
Yes. France requires identity verification to buy or activate any prepaid SIM card. The legal basis is Article L34-1 of the Code des Postes et des Communications Electroniques (CPCE), originally set by Law No. 2004-669, and reinforced in 2025 by the anti-narcotrafficking law (Law No. 2025-532 of June 13, 2025). Tourists need a valid passport. EU citizens can use a national ID card. There is no exception for data-only plans - the ID requirement applies regardless.
Travel eSIMs like Ohayu do not require in-store registration or an ID check - plans can be installed online before departure.
Why isn't my eSIM working in Paris?
The deeper Métro tunnels and the RER stretches under the river drop briefly. Elsewhere, check that Ohayu is selected as your mobile data SIM and that data roaming is enabled for it, then restart the radio with Airplane mode. If nothing changes, chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
