Real Bali conditions
- Rice fields & jungle interiors: Ubud's central market area has good coverage, but hiking trails into the jungle and terrace-farming areas north of town can have patchy 4G. Carry downloaded maps when trekking to Munduk or the Bedugul highlands.
- Remote coastal spots: Seminyak, Canggu, and Nusa Dua have coverage. More remote beaches like Nyang Nyang or the west coast near Medewi may have limited signal.
- Power outages & infrastructure: Bali occasionally experiences brief power outages that can temporarily affect cell towers. During Nyepi (Day of Silence), all telecommunications services including mobile data are suspended island-wide by law.
One eSIM, all of Indonesia
The plan extends well beyond Bali - it covers Indonesia nationwide. If your trip includes Jakarta, Lombok, the Gili Islands, or any other part of the archipelago, the same eSIM keeps you connected throughout.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Bali?
Right past customs at Ngurah Rai (DPS) you'll find kiosks from Telkomsel, XL Axiata, and Indosat Ooredoo side by side. They're open during all international flight hours. Bring your passport - registration is required and takes about 10-15 minutes at the counter. In peak season (July-August, Christmas) those queues can stretch to 1-2 hours. If you're flying into a smaller regional airport or hopping between islands, those airports don't have mobile operator stores at all. For those cases, get a travel eSIM like Ohayu before you go - after landing it can connect you to supported networks like Telkomsel or XL Axiata.
Do I need to show ID to buy a SIM card in Bali?
Yes. To buy a local Indonesian SIM card with a phone number, you need to register with your ID at the store. In 2026, Communications and Digital Ministerial Regulation No. 7 became stricter - it now requires all mobile operators to verify customers' residence permits or visa stamps. Operators can also do a biometrics scan and facial recognition to match your face to the passport photo. This applies at airport kiosks including Telkomsel, XL Axiata, and Indosat Ooredoo counters at DPS.
Travel eSIMs like Ohayu are easier for short trips to Bali because they don't require in-store registration or an ID check.
Why isn't my eSIM working in Bali?
In the Sidemen valleys or on a boat to the Gilis there may be nothing in range. If that is not it, open your SIM settings, set Ohayu as the data line with roaming permitted, and toggle Airplane mode. Still stuck? chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
