A week on the coast – 10 GB
Day trips, navigation, calls home.

Tethering a laptop from a beach café.
Coverage and network
Coverage, honestly
Mexico mobile networks
Telcel carries most of the Yucatán and its coverage is what you'll usually be riding on. Along the hotel strip and in downtown Cancún that is dependable. Push inland toward the cenotes and it becomes a question of which road you took. (Speedtest by Ookla, June 2026)

What to expect around Cancún
- The Hotel Zone: Solid the length of Kukulcán, including the beach clubs. When a resort is at capacity the shared towers slow down in the evenings.
- ADO buses to Playa and Tulum: The 307 highway is covered almost end to end, so the two-hour run south stays usable.
- Cenotes and back roads: This is where it goes. Popular cenotes near the highway are fine; the ones down unpaved tracks have nothing, and neither will the group you came with.
- Ferries to Isla Mujeres and Cozumel: Signal at both docks, patchy in the middle of the crossing.
Beyond the Riviera Maya
The same eSIM works across Mexico - Tulum, Mérida, Mexico City - so a Riviera Maya trip that grows doesn't need a second plan.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Cancun?
Cancun International Airport has Telcel and AT&T Mexico kiosks in the arrivals area. Airport prices are noticeably higher than in town. A travel eSIM like Ohayu skips the counter - install before you fly and after landing it can connect you to supported networks like Telcel, AT&T, or Movistar.
Do I need to show ID to buy a SIM card in Cancun?
Yes - Mexico requires ID registration for prepaid SIM cards. Tourists typically need a passport. Travel eSIMs like Ohayu don't require this registration since they're data-only.
Will it work at the Mayan ruins and cenotes?
Coverage is generally good around major sites like Tulum and Chichen Itza, but can weaken in more remote jungle areas and some cenotes off the main roads - normal for any carrier in those areas.
eSIM not working in Cancún?
If you are at a cenote down a dirt track, there is likely nothing in range. Otherwise check the Ohayu eSIM is your data line, roaming is enabled for it, and toggle Airplane mode once. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
