How much mobile data you need
What's the best eSIM for Alaska?
City stay – 3 GB
Maps, Instagram, and messaging in Anchorage or Juneau over a few days.
A week statewide – 10 GB
Maps, social media, and video calls when you have signal on the road.
Alaska + the mainland – 20 GB
Flying in from elsewhere in the US? One eSIM covers both.
Remote work – Unlimited
Hotspot for your laptop from Anchorage or Fairbanks where coverage is strongest.
Coverage and network
Honest about coverage
United States mobile networks
Alaska is by far the most remote state to cover with mobile data. Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau have solid 4G/5G, but vast stretches of wilderness, much of the interior, and many small villages have no cell coverage at all - be prepared for real gaps if you're heading off the road system.

Real Alaska conditions
- Anchorage, Fairbanks & Juneau: Good 4G/5G coverage in and around Alaska's main cities.
- Major highways: Coverage runs along the Seward Highway, Parks Highway, and other main routes, though it drops out in stretches between towns.
- Denali, cruises & remote areas: Expect no signal deep in Denali National Park, on many cruise routes through Southeast Alaska, or in small bush communities - this is normal for the region and not specific to any carrier.
One eSIM, the whole country
There's no such thing as an "Alaska-only" eSIM - your plan works across the entire USA. Use it in Alaska, then keep the same eSIM for the rest of your trip.
How to install eSIM
Connected in 3 steps
- 01
Buy before you fly
Choose your data plan before your trip.
- 02
Download & install
Log in to your account, tap your eSIM, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- 03
Land & activate
Activate when you arrive in United States. Turn on roaming for the eSIM and it connects to a local network.
Before you buy, make sure your phone supports eSIM — see Ohayu compatible devices list or dial *#06#. It's a free request to your phone's settings. If you see the EID number — your phone is eSIM-compatible.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Alaska?
Anchorage Airport has an AT&T store in the terminal, though selection is limited compared to bigger US airports. A travel eSIM like Ohayu skips the trip to a store entirely - install before you fly and after landing it can connect you to supported networks like AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile.
Is ID required for prepaid in the US?
No, and nothing is registered against your name. The more relevant point in Alaska is coverage rather than paperwork - decide your plan around where you are actually going.
Will it work in Denali or on a cruise?
Denali National Park has almost no cell coverage away from the entrance area, and most cruise routes through Southeast Alaska lose signal at sea between ports - this is true for every carrier, not specific to any eSIM or SIM. Coverage returns reliably in port towns like Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway.
Why isn't my eSIM working in Alaska?
First, check if you are in a genuinely remote area - much of Alaska's interior and bush communities have no cell coverage at all, regardless of carrier. In towns with coverage, try: (1) set the Ohayu eSIM as your data line in settings, (2) turn on data roaming for that eSIM, (3) toggle Airplane mode off and on. If it still will not attach, chat support and support@ohayu.com are both open 24/7.
