How much mobile data you need
What's the best eSIM for Los Angeles?
Long weekend – 3 GB
Maps and rideshare apps, mostly.
A week – 10 GB
Constant navigation adds up faster than people expect.
LA, Vegas, San Francisco – 20 GB
A southwest loop on one plan.
Working from the Westside – Unlimited
Tethering from Venice or Culver City.
Coverage and network
Coverage across the basin
United States mobile networks
LA is a driving city, which changes what matters. Peak speeds are strong across the basin, but the thing you will actually lean on is uninterrupted navigation over 40-mile journeys - and on that, the freeway corridors are well covered. The canyons are where it breaks. (Speedtest by Ookla, June 2026)

Global rank
#30 of 98
LA, specifically
- The 405, 101 and 10: Continuous coverage along the main freeways, so routing holds even in a two-hour crawl.
- Downtown, Santa Monica, Hollywood: Strong throughout, including inside the larger malls and the Metro stations.
- Topanga, Angeles National Forest, Malibu canyons: Signal disappears quickly once you turn off the coast road or head up into the hills. Mulholland has gaps too.
No such thing as an LA-only plan
There is no LA-only plan and no need for one - it runs nationwide, which covers the drive to Vegas or the flight to New York.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Los Angeles?
AT&T and T-Mobile have kiosks in the Tom Bradley terminal at LAX, at roughly $35-60. A Target or Best Buy in the city will be considerably cheaper. An eSIM skips the detour.
Is ID needed for a US prepaid SIM?
No federal law asks for it. A clerk may want a ZIP code for a form field; anything valid works. An eSIM skips it.
Will navigation hold up on the freeways?
Yes. The 405, 101, 110 and 10 have continuous coverage, so routing and live traffic keep working through congestion. The canyon roads are the exception - Topanga and the Angeles Forest lose signal within a few minutes of leaving the valley floor.
eSIM not working in Los Angeles?
Confirm the Ohayu eSIM is your selected data line and that roaming is switched on for it, then toggle Airplane mode to force a re-scan. If you are up a canyon, move back toward a main road first. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
