Coverage and network
Coverage coast versus Barbagia
Italy mobile networks
Cagliari sits at the southern end of Sardinia and is comfortably covered, as is the coastal ring the island's tourism runs on. Inland is a different matter: Sardinia's mountainous centre is sparsely populated and the network reflects that.

Cagliari and Sardinia, specifically
- Castello, Marina, Poetto: Reliable coverage. The Castello district sits on a hill above the city and gets the best of it.
- The southern beaches: Villasimius, Chia and the Costa Rei are covered at the resorts and along the roads. The dirt tracks down to the emptier coves lose it, which is the trade-off for them being empty.
- Barbagia and the Gennargentu: The mountainous interior is the real gap. Villages have service; the roads between them and the walking routes on Supramonte often have none. If you are hiking there, download everything.
- The Costa Smeralda, four hours north: Well covered - it is the most developed stretch of coast on the island and the network follows the money.
- Ferries to the mainland: The Civitavecchia and Genoa crossings are long overnight sailings with hours out of range in the middle. Onboard Wi-Fi is the fallback and it is usually poor.
Sardinia and the rest of Italy
One plan covers all of Italy, so Sardinia, Sicily and the mainland run on the same eSIM. Corsica, visible from the north coast, is French.

Arriving in Cagliari
Elmas airport and the port
Cagliari-Elmas has free terminal Wi-Fi and is unusually close to the city, seven kilometres with a train that takes minutes. Ferry arrivals from the mainland dock centrally instead, with no dependable public network.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Cagliari?
Operator shops on Via Roma and in the shopping centres, plus a counter at Elmas. Passport needed. Outside Cagliari, Olbia and Alghero the options drop away quickly.
Is there coverage in the Sardinian interior?
Less than you would expect from a European island. Barbagia and the Gennargentu massif are thinly populated and the roads between villages have long unserved stretches. The Supramonte walking routes should be treated as offline - download the map and tell someone your plan.
Does the plan cover Corsica?
No. Corsica is French and 12 km away at the closest point, so it needs a France plan. Both are EU, which keeps the terms similar, but they are separate purchases.
eSIM not working in Cagliari?
Inland in Barbagia or mid-crossing on a mainland ferry, gaps are expected. On the coast, make Ohayu the line used for mobile data, allow roaming, then flip Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
