Coverage around Milan
Italy mobile networks
As Italy's financial centre, Milan has the densest network build in the country and generally outperforms Rome. Where it struggles is predictable: the trade fair calendar. (Speedtest by Ookla, June 2026)

Milan, specifically
- Duomo, Brera, Porta Nuova: Strong throughout the centre and the business district. Even the Galleria and the big department stores hold up indoors.
- The metro: Five lines, coverage in the stations, patchy in the tunnels. Trams above ground are fine.
- Fiera Milano during a major fair: Salone del Mobile and Fashion Week put tens of thousands of people on the same cells. Expect it to crawl around Rho Fiera on those weeks - local SIMs included.
- Lake Como and Bergamo: The trains and lakeside towns are covered. Signal thins on the steeper roads above Como and in the valleys behind it.
North and south on one plan
One plan, all of Italy. Useful from Milan, since the lakes, Turin and Venice are all short train rides.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Milan?
TIM and Vodafone have shops in Malpensa arrivals and around the Duomo. City prices beat airport prices by a fair margin. An eSIM skips the queue.
Do I need to show ID to buy a SIM card in Italy?
Yes - Italy requires passport registration on every prepaid SIM. Ohayu plans are data-only with no Italian number, so it does not apply.
Will data slow down during Fashion Week or Salone del Mobile?
Around the venues, yes. Those events concentrate huge crowds at Rho Fiera and in the design districts, and the cells there saturate. It affects every carrier the same way. Elsewhere in the city you will not notice.
eSIM not working in Milan?
Check the Ohayu eSIM is set as your data line and that roaming is enabled for it, then toggle Airplane mode to force a re-scan. If you are at Rho Fiera during a major fair, slow speeds are congestion rather than a fault. Chat and support@ohayu.com run 24/7.
