The Front Range cities are well covered and so is the I-70 ski corridor, which is better than most mountain states manage. Go above the resorts or off the highway and it falls away quickly. (Speedtest by Ookla, June 2026)

Colorado, specifically

  • Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs: Strong 5G across the Front Range and on Denver light rail including the A Line from the airport.
  • The I-70 ski corridor: Covered through Georgetown, Silverthorne, Vail and Glenwood. The Eisenhower Tunnel itself is a dead spot, which is brief but reliably catches people mid-call.
  • Resort villages versus backcountry: Vail, Breckenridge and Aspen villages have full service, including on most lifts. Off-piste bowls, hut routes and the backcountry do not.
  • Rocky Mountain National Park and the 14ers: Estes Park is fine, Trail Ridge Road is patchy, and the high summits have essentially nothing. If you are climbing a fourteener, plan as if you have no phone.

Airport Wi-Fi at DEN

Denver International asks for an email address and terms acceptance. There is a second, slower 2.4 GHz network with wider reach if the main one is weak.

Frequently asked questions

Coverage

Where to buy a SIM card in Colorado?

DEN has kiosks, and there are carrier stores across Denver and in the larger resort towns. Airport pricing is worse. An eSIM saves the errand.

Any ID needed to buy prepaid data in the US?

No. Prepaid lines are not registered to individuals here. An eSIM needs nothing beyond a payment method.

Will it work at the ski resorts and on the 14ers?

At the resorts, yes - the villages and most lift-served terrain have service, so lift and weather apps work. The backcountry, hut routes and high summits are a different matter: assume no signal above the resort boundary, and note the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 is a short dead zone on the drive up.

Troubleshooting

eSIM not working in Colorado?

Above the resorts or on a summit there may be nothing in range. On I-70 the Eisenhower Tunnel always drops. Otherwise it is nearly always the data-line setting: pick Ohayu for mobile data, allow roaming, restart the radio with Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
