Coverage and network
Coverage on Oahu
United States mobile networks
Honolulu is a proper city, not a resort strip, and the network is a normal urban US one. Where Oahu differs is that you can drive from full 5G to nothing in about forty minutes, because the island runs out. (Speedtest by Ookla, June 2026)

Honolulu and Oahu
- Waikiki and downtown: Dense coverage along the beachfront hotels, Ala Moana and the business district. Fine indoors too.
- Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor: Both covered, including the crater trail and the memorial grounds.
- H-1 and TheBus: Continuous along the main highway and on the bus network, which matters because Honolulu traffic is worse than its size suggests.
- North Shore and the windward coast: Haleiwa and the main coastal road have service. It thins on the Ko'olau ridge trails and in the valleys, and some of the remoter beaches have nothing.
Oahu, the other islands, the mainland
The plan covers all 50 states, so island-hopping to Maui or Kauai and the flight back to the mainland are all included.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Honolulu?
Carrier stores at Ala Moana Center and along Kalakaua Avenue, plus kiosks at HNL. Prices match the mainland. An eSIM means arriving already set up.
Will I need ID at the counter for a prepaid SIM?
No - the US requires no identification for prepaid. If a clerk wants a ZIP code for the form, any valid one will do. An eSIM has no counter to visit.
Does the same plan work on Maui and the Big Island?
Yes. Hawaii is a US state, so one plan covers every island and the mainland with nothing to change when you fly between them. Coverage on the other islands follows the same pattern as Oahu: strong in the towns and along main roads, absent in the volcanic interiors and on remote coastline.
eSIM not working in Honolulu?
If you have driven up a valley or onto a ridge trail there may be no coverage. In town, check the Ohayu eSIM is your data line and roaming is on, then cycle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
