Coverage and network

Coverage town, clubs and coves

Spain mobile networks

Ibiza is small and intensively developed along its southern and eastern coasts, so coverage is broad. What defines the experience here is load: the island's summer population is several times its winter one, concentrated in a handful of places.

Ibiza, specifically

  • Ibiza Town and Dalt Vila: Covered, including up inside the walled old town. The steep cobbled lanes dip in places.
  • The clubs: Playa d'en Bossa and San Antonio put tens of thousands of people into a few venues on a summer night. Uploads slow to nothing at peak, and finding your group by phone at 3am is optimistic - agree a meeting point.
  • The northern coves: Cala Benirrás, Cala d'Hort and the smaller calas are reached by narrow roads and often have coverage at the top and less at the bottom. The tracks are poorly signed, so cache the map.
  • Es Vedrà and the boat trips: Covered near shore. Trips round the island and out towards Es Vedrà lose it behind the rock.
  • The Formentera ferry: Half an hour, and it mostly holds signal - the channel is narrow. Formentera itself is covered in the villages.

Arriving in Ibiza

Airport Wi-Fi at IBZ

Ibiza airport runs the AENA network. In July and August arrivals are relentless and the taxi queue is legendary, so having a transfer arranged and trackable beforehand is the practical reason to land connected.

Frequently asked questions

Coverage

Why is data so slow at the clubs?

Because a venue holding several thousand people is one of the hardest tests a cell can face, and Playa d'en Bossa has a row of them. Messages will get out when uploads will not. It is congestion, not coverage, and nothing a different provider would fix.

Where to buy a SIM card in Ibiza?

Operator outlets in Ibiza Town and San Antonio, plus a counter at the airport. Spanish law requires a physical SIM to be registered against a passport or EU ID in store. In August the shops are as busy as everywhere else.

Does the plan cover Formentera?

Yes - it is Spanish and part of the Balearics, so nothing changes. The ferry is short enough to keep signal for most of the crossing, and Formentera's villages are covered.

Troubleshooting

eSIM not working in Ibiza?

In a packed club, slow is load rather than a fault. Down in a cala, the road above may have signal where the beach does not. Otherwise select Ohayu for mobile data, enable roaming, cycle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
