Real Madrid conditions

  • Metro Line 1 & deep stations: The Madrid Metro has variable in-tunnel coverage. Deeper stations on Lines 1 and 5 can lose signal between stops. Surface sections and most platforms maintain connectivity, but expect brief drops in the older underground tunnels.
  • Bernabéu & major events: On match days at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu or during large public gatherings at Plaza Mayor, network congestion can significantly slow data speeds. Pre-downloading directions and tickets is advisable before arriving.
  • Sierra de Guadarrama day trips: Coverage is available throughout central Madrid and the commuter belt. In the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains, signal may be limited or absent.

One eSIM, all of Spain

Madrid is just the starting point - this plan covers Spain from the Canary Islands to the Pyrenees. Take the AVE to Barcelona or Seville and the same eSIM handles connectivity the entire journey.

Frequently asked questions

Coverage

Where to buy a SIM card in Madrid?

Terminal 4 has the best options: Sim Local in arrivals, Orange at The Market (~€25/100 GB), and an Orange counter at the left-luggage desk (open 05:00-23:00). T1 has another Sim Local but with limited hours. T2 and T3 have almost nothing. If you land at T1 after 19:00, or arrive into T2 or T3, you're basically out of options on-site. In that case, a travel eSIM like Ohayu is the practical choice - after landing it can connect you to supported networks like Vodafone, Orange or Movistar.

What ID does a Spanish SIM require?

A passport for non-EU visitors, or a national ID card if you are an EU citizen - Spanish physical SIMs are registered in store against a document. It takes a few minutes. An eSIM bought online skips the counter entirely, which in Madrid means not losing an hour of a short trip to it.

Troubleshooting

Why isn't my eSIM working in Madrid?

The Metro carries a signal, though the deepest interchanges can drop. Otherwise the usual cause is the phone still preferring your home line: pick Ohayu for mobile data, switch roaming on, then cycle Airplane mode. Failing that, chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
