Real Barcelona conditions
- Metro tunnels: Barcelona Metro has patchy in-tunnel coverage depending on the line. Platforms on Lines L1-L5 generally have signal, but mid-tunnel connectivity can drop on some stretches. The newer L9/L10 airport line has better infrastructure.
- La Sagrada Família & Park Güell crowds: Network congestion around major tourist sites can reduce speeds during peak visiting hours, particularly in summer. Downloading maps and tickets in advance is a practical workaround.
- Montserrat & inland excursions: Day trips to Montserrat or the Costa Brava interior may encounter weaker coverage in mountainous or rural terrain. Major coastal resorts and towns along the coast are generally well covered.
One eSIM, all of Spain
Beyond Barcelona, this plan covers all of Spain. Whether you're heading to Madrid for the Prado, exploring San Sebastián, or relaxing in the Balearic Islands, the same eSIM stays active throughout the country.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Barcelona?
At El Prat T1, Vodafone has a store in the arrivals hall and Travel HUB is about 35 meters from the security exit past baggage claim. In T2, Tienda del Viajero is near the check-in desks. Most shops close around 22:00. Airport SIMs run €10-35 which is well above city prices. If you're arriving late or just want a better deal, a travel eSIM like Ohayu can connect you to supported networks like Vodafone, Orange or Movistar after landing.
Do I need to show ID to buy a SIM card in Barcelona?
Yes. To get a physical SIM card in Spain, you need to register it in a store with your ID - this is required under Law 25/2007. For non-EU foreigners, an international passport is the document to bring. EU citizens can use a national ID card. Presenting a local address is not required by law, but some shops may ask for one.
Data-only travel eSIMs for Spain, like Ohayu, are a simpler option because they do not require a physical store visit or official registration. Plans can be installed and topped up online without an ID check.
Why isn't my eSIM working in Barcelona?
In the tight Gothic Quarter lanes signal dips - step into a plaça. If it is not that, make Ohayu the line your phone uses for mobile data, allow roaming for it, then flip Airplane mode once. If it still will not connect, chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
