Coverage and network

Coverage end to end on a flat island

Greece mobile networks

Kos is 40 km long, mostly flat and easy to cross, which makes it one of the more straightforwardly covered Greek islands - there are few hills to shadow a signal. The complication is that Bodrum is 5 km away across the strait.

Kos, specifically

  • Kos Town: Consistent coverage. Flat, compact and well served.
  • The cycle paths: Kos is the Greek island people cycle, with dedicated paths running out of town in both directions. They stay in coverage, which is useful when you have gone further than you meant to.
  • Tigaki, Kardamena, Kefalos: The resort areas are covered. Kefalos at the far southwest end is the thinnest part.
  • Zia and Mount Dikeos: The mountain village has service; the trails above it get patchy near the summit.
  • The Bodrum strait: Turkish networks are easily strong enough to reach the east side of Kos, and phones do sometimes register on them. A Greek plan does not cover Turkey, so this is worth watching.

Kos, Greece - and not Turkey

The plan covers all of Greece, Kos and the wider Dodecanese included. Turkey, 5 km away, is a separate destination.

Arriving on Kos

Airport Wi-Fi at KGS

Hippocrates airport runs the Fraport network with a browser welcome page. It sits in the middle of the island, about 25 km from Kos Town, so the transfer is where you will want data rather than the terminal.

Frequently asked questions

Coverage

Where to buy a SIM card on Kos?

A few outlets in Kos Town and seasonal shops in the resorts. Passport needed for registration. The airport counter is limited, and the island is small enough that town is an easy trip anyway.

My phone connected to a Turkish network - what happened?

Bodrum is about 5 km across the strait and Turkish masts reach the east side of Kos comfortably. If your phone picks one, you have left the plan's coverage without leaving the island. Set your network selection to a Greek operator manually if it keeps happening, and note that the ferry to Bodrum takes you out of coverage properly.

Is the island easy to cover by bike?

Yes, and the coverage helps - the dedicated cycle paths out of Kos Town stay in signal, which is reassuring on a flat island where it is easy to ride 20 km without noticing. The far southwest around Kefalos is the one stretch to be careful about.

Troubleshooting

eSIM not working on Kos?

First check the network name - on the east coast phones sometimes register on a Turkish mast, which is outside the plan. If you are on a Greek network, make Ohayu the mobile data line, enable roaming, then toggle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
