Coverage and network
Coverage city, coast and mountains
Spain mobile networks
Málaga has changed a great deal in a decade - it is now a serious technology and remote-work city rather than just the Costa del Sol's airport - and the network has followed. The coast is well covered; the sierra behind it is not.

Málaga, specifically
- The historic centre and Soho: Strong 5G. The pedestrianised centre and the port redevelopment are thoroughly covered.
- The Costa del Sol train: The line to Fuengirola and Torremolinos holds signal the whole way, and it runs from under the airport terminal.
- The Caminito del Rey: The gorge walkway an hour north. Coverage is patchy along it and absent in the narrowest sections - it is a cliff-pinned boardwalk through a gorge. Entry is by timed ticket, so save it offline; the walk is one-way and there is a bus back.
- Ronda and the sierra: The white towns are covered. The mountain roads between them lose signal in the valleys, and the drive up from the coast is slow.
- The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro: Both covered, and the hilltop castle is a good spot for anything you want to upload.
Spain, and the EU
The plan covers all of Spain including the islands. Gibraltar, an hour and a half west, is British and needs its own plan.

Arriving in Málaga
Airport Wi-Fi at AGP
Málaga runs the AENA network with a browser sign-in. The train into the city and along the coast leaves from beneath the terminal, which makes this one of the easier Spanish airports to arrive at.

Frequently asked questions
Does the plan cover Gibraltar?
No. Gibraltar is a British overseas territory, and post-Brexit it sits outside EU roaming - so a Spain plan stops at the border at La Línea. It is a common day trip from the Costa del Sol, and the crossing is on foot across an airport runway, so it is easy to do without thinking about data.
Where to buy a SIM card in Málaga?
Operator shops in the centre and in Larios and Vialia, plus a counter at the airport. A physical Spanish SIM is registered in store against a passport or EU ID card. Quick enough, but the AGP train leaves every twenty minutes and you may prefer to be on it.
Is there signal on the Caminito del Rey?
Patchily, and in the narrow sections none - the walkway is bolted to a gorge wall. Entry runs on timed tickets and the route is one-way, so download your ticket and the return bus times before you drive up.
eSIM not working in Málaga?
In the Caminito gorge or up a sierra valley, gaps are the terrain. If you have crossed into Gibraltar you are outside the plan. In the city, make Ohayu the data line, allow roaming, toggle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
