Coverage and network
Coverage around the Sound
United States mobile networks
Seattle is a tech city and the network reflects that - dense coverage across the core and the Eastside. The interesting bit is what surrounds it: water on one side, two mountain ranges on the other, and both eat signal once you leave the corridor. (Speedtest by Ookla, June 2026)

Global rank
#10 of 98
Seattle, specifically
- Downtown, Capitol Hill, Ballard: Strong throughout, and on the Link tunnel sections under downtown.
- Ferries to Bainbridge and Bremerton: Signal holds for most of the crossing since you stay within sight of built-up shore, though it thins mid-channel.
- Mount Rainier and the Cascades: Paradise and the main park roads have patchy service at best, and the trails have none. Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 is covered but drops in places.
- Olympic National Park: Effectively offline once you are past Port Angeles. The Hoh rainforest and the coastal strip have nothing.
Beyond the corridor
One plan for every state, so Portland or a flight to Alaska is already covered.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Seattle?
Sea-Tac has kiosks, and there are carrier stores downtown and at University Village. Retail is cheaper than the airport. An eSIM avoids the stop.
Does buying a prepaid SIM in the US involve ID checks?
No. Federal rules do not require prepaid lines to be registered to a person, and nothing is verified for an eSIM.
Will it work at Mount Rainier or in the Olympics?
Not dependably. Rainier has thin coverage on the main park roads and none on the trails. Olympic National Park is worse - the Hoh and the coast are genuine dead zones. Download offline maps before you leave the I-5 corridor, and do not plan on a phone for navigation inside either park.
eSIM not working in Seattle?
Check which SIM is set for mobile data - it needs to be Ohayu, with roaming allowed - then cycle Airplane mode. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
