Coverage and network
Coverage on the Mall and under it
United States mobile networks
DC is compact, walkable and full of museums, so most of your data goes on walking directions and looking things up in queues. Coverage across the District handles that comfortably, including the deep Metro tunnels. (Speedtest by Ookla, June 2026)

Washington, specifically
- The National Mall: Strong the length of it. Crowds on the Fourth of July or for an inauguration will slow things, as any dense event does.
- Metro: Coverage across the network including the deep-bored stations like Rosslyn and Wheaton, so you keep signal between stops.
- Reagan versus Dulles: DCA sits on the Metro Blue and Yellow lines, about 15 minutes from downtown. IAD is 26 miles west with its own Silver Line extension that takes closer to an hour. Worth knowing before you book a car.
- Virginia and Maryland suburbs: Well covered across Arlington, Alexandria and Bethesda, and out to Shenandoah on the main roads.
The District and the rest
One plan for all 50 states, which covers the Acela to New York or a drive to Virginia.

Frequently asked questions
Where to buy a SIM card in Washington DC?
Carrier stores are easy to find downtown and in Georgetown; both airports have kiosks at a premium. An eSIM saves the errand.
Is prepaid SIM registration required in the US?
No, and that has been true nationwide for as long as prepaid has existed. The FCC has discussed changing it, but it is still only a proposal. eSIMs are unaffected regardless.
Does it work on the Metro?
Yes, across the network. DC has some of the deepest stations in the country - Rosslyn and Forest Glen among them - and they have been fitted with cellular coverage, so you stay online between stops rather than losing signal in the tunnels.
eSIM not working in Washington?
Check the Ohayu eSIM is your data line and roaming is enabled for it, then toggle Airplane mode once. Chat and support@ohayu.com are open 24/7.
